MLK Jr Shoreline, Oakland
September is upon us, and that means that Coastal Cleanup Day is coming soon!
WHAT On Saturday, September 21, PCNC will continue the annual tradition of providing some spirited volunteers to join the Save the Bay cleanup event at the MLK Jr Shoreline in Oakland. The event will take place from 9:30am-12:30pm (note the half-hour shift later, relative to previous years). If it’s anything like the coastal cleanups before, it will feature background/instructions (provided by StB) and bananas/bagels (ditto) for the first 30 minutes, about 1.5-2 hours of cleanup, and a post-cleanup wrap-up where prizes are handed out for the most outlandish litter recovered. Then the Princeton crew will split off and enjoy sandwiches from Joaquin Deli (compliments of PCNC) at our traditional picnic spot overlooking the Bay. : )

There is room for 15 volunteers; the sooner you email me (see below), the likelier you are to squeak in. I’ll also maintain a waitlist in case of cancellations (there are a handful every year, when some kid’s birthday party or soccer game crops up on someone’s schedule). Kids are welcome, with parental supervision. Carpooling is encouraged, and if you let me know in your initial message whether you need a ride or can offer a ride (and where to/from), that would be helpful.
